What now?

I want to mention–and words fail me–how I grieve for the people of Newtown, Connecticut. I am disappointed that the American media focuses on the actions of the killer in such a way as to set up the ‘next challenge’ for any other aspiring monster who, unable to manage a life worth living, might decide to become tomorrow’s news.

Let’s help those in mourning by respecting their privacy and not sensationalizing the lunatic actions of the deranged individuals who commit such atrocities.
Let’s take a good, hard look at our culture and how we deal with the mentally ill in our midst. I can’t begin to think of how to deal with this horrifying trend in American society, but we’re going to have to come up with a better solution than sitting in front of our televisions and watching it happen again and again.
